This Meteor Shower which occurs from the tail of Comet Temple-Tuttle, which every November, passing close to Earth. Called Leonid shooting stars visible as jets originating from the constellation Leo.
Once in 33 years, most recently in 2002, the Earth passes enough with the material in the tail of a comet, creating hundreds to thousands of shooting stars per hour. Unfortunately, the Leonid Meteor Shower is not sedahsyat it. "But Leonid still have good reputation in the beautiful meteor display," said Rao.
The beauty of this meteor shower comes from the material in the comet tail. Unlike other comets that passed, Temple-Tuttle has a direction opposite the Earth. As a result the speed of meteors in the atmosphere is so much faster, reaching 72 kilometers per second. As a comparison, the average velocity of 1,000 meters per second bullet.
According to Rao, tonight we can watch 15 to 20 shooting stars every hour. Leonid began to emerge after midnight. "But the best time is two or three hours before sunrise, when the moon had set," he said.
